When Ray Anderson challenged carpet tile manufacturer Interface employees in 1994 to create a fully sustainable company, the goal was more than ambitious. Mission Zero has transformed the company’s philosophy and business model.
The company’s Let’s be Clear campaign is a call for transparency on environmental claims, a future where it is illegal to send carpet waste to landfill in all countries, and where all flooring producers operate ‘closed loop’ manufacturing processes. By 2020 the company intends that all raw materials will be recycled or bio-based.
Rather than making small adjustments to existing processes to meet less demanding targets employees and suppliers are encouraged to come up with innovative processes that contribute to achieving the long-term vision.
