As part of the Strategic Defence and Security Review, the Defence Infrastructure Organisation, the Ministry of Defence’s property and services provider, is embarking on a journey, through our transformation process.

It is through careful sustainable management, that we are able to put our estate at the forefront of DIO’s drive to become a world-class public sector infrastructure delivery organisation both now and for the future.

Andrew Manley, Chief Executive of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO)

Sanctuary is the Ministry of Defence’s (MOD) flagship annual conservation magazine covering nature conservation, flora and fauna, heritage, landscape protection, energy efficiency, community awareness and access and recreation activities on the defence estate both at home and overseas.

The publication demonstrates the MOD’s commitment to conservation projects and provides insight and examples of how military activities and conservation are working in tandem. The most recent edition, issue 40 was supported by industry partners – Aspire Defence, Babcock International, Carillion Enterprise, Kelda Water Services, Landmarc Support Services and Lend Lease.

The cover image, of rare mining bees Melitta dimidiate, was taken close to Tidworth on MOD land on Salisbury Plain, the only known location for this species in Western Europe.
